INDUSTRIAL SUSTAINABILITY IN A PODCAST

ABB AND THE INDUSTRIAL SUSTAINABILITY

The term “sustainability” is now on the agenda and is used in all sectors especially in the industrial one. Sustainable industry integrates three dimensions into its business model: environmental, social and economic-financial.
The goal is to trigger an ecological-digital transition of the production systems of the member countries.

In Italy, on 20 October 2021, the twelfth report of Green Italy (by Foundation Symbola and Unioncamere) reported the following results: from 2016 to 2020 over 441,000 companies decided to invest in green technologies and products, 21.4% in 2020. In 2021, eco-investor companies exported 31% compared to 20% of the others and, from 2017 to 2019, they showed a 17% higher productivity.

We can say that the green economy is significantly changing the business models of companies all over the world, from production to sales.
In this regard, ABB, the Swiss-Swedish multinational of automation and energy, has created a podcast that talks about environmental sustainability with four industry experts: Fernando Mosciaro and Marianna Muscariello of ABB Italy, Nicoletta Ravasio who holds the role of director of research for the Cnr and finally Lucas di Grassi as well as Climate Change Ambassador of the United Nations and driver of ABB Formula E.

Six episodes in which the urgency to change is explained, not only to adhere to green issues and thus be aligned among member countries, but to take concrete actions that help stop climate change.
The macro-level theme aims to speak to the new generations, as a passing of the baton to adopt choices for the benefit of the community and its ecosystem.

To take steps towards change, concrete actions must be taken:
«Sustainability is a way of supporting the industrial and economic development of society so that it lasts over time – comments Nicoletta Ravasio – 30 years ago no one spoke of sustainability or was interested in renewable resources, now there is a race, sometimes supported by few arguments“. This common thread resonates as a background voice in the practice of green washing subject to strong marketing strategies that do not find a real commitment in attention to the environment.

ABB has set many goals aimed at a tangible change for the environment. An example of this is the desire to achieve carbon neutrality in its activities by 2030, thus supporting the ecological transition of its customers and suppliers.

Although there are still many steps to take, the sustainable economy has taken the right direction and the change within the industries is a more than real fact.

Like many companies in the industrial sector, COMI has also become a promoter of environmental sustainability over time and has included processes within its processes to keep pace with change.

COMI as ABB’s partner, it will supply a CNC milling machine for shaping, drilling and milling copper rods that form ABB’s electrical switchboards.
The machine is supported by ABB robots for plant automation, guaranteeing high safety standards and with a significant reduction in cycle times and energy consumption. Furthermore, the system involves the use of sensors and high-definition cameras for the recognition of the single piece being processed and the subsequent choice of the program stored in the numerical control.

The plant was designed to meet ABB’s high production standards, a small step towards a sustainable economy.
